Keeping the components of the valvetrain in the correct position is essential for trouble-free operation of the gas exchange. The valve spring ensures that the engines valves are opened and closed in a controlled manner and needs to be kept in the correct position with a spring retainer cap designed according to the engine application.
Spring retainer caps center the valve spring and keep it in the right position. They transmit the spring loads to the valve via the valve cotters.
The length of the inner cone of the spring retainer cap must be such that the cotters do not protrude at either side when fixed in position.
